MM-Odometer, Where we went in August

The MADMEN were busy again in August, multiplying in numbers and racking up mileage in our trusty chariots.

After all the waiting and wondering the current MADMEN Co-Chairs remain in office.  Marsha Carter and Barney Rael will continue to head up the Tucson chapter of the DMC.

MINI Munchies was at Macayo’s Eastside where the food and drink are great and the company even more so. Our hostess for the evening was unable to attend as her trusty chariot fell ill, but we were still able to enjoy ourselves. In addition to new member faces in attendance we also recruited another new membership!

Several MADMEN journeyed to Mesa for an Elvis Tribute concert with three Elvi performing, then motored to North Phoenix for a Metal Elvis performance. We arrived back in Tucson at 4am. That’s right, 4am. Who says the MADMEN are old and staid?

The highlight of the month was Show Low Weekend at Rael’s Wild Boar Ranch. We did not drive up as a group because of work schedules and we went in different directions on Saturday but everyone had a blast. One group headed for the Petrified Forest where we found a group of Brit bikers to chat up and oh yes, we saw rocks. One group went antiquing, another group visited gun shops and one group stayed at the ranch to prepare the most fabulous dinner of pulled pork, beans and … well, you should have been there. We took the long way home from Show Low via Hwy. 191, Hwy. 666, Coronado Trail or Devil’s Hwy., call it what you want but call it fun. Our pace allowed for the enjoyment of the natural beauty of the area and no one got car-sick.

We ended the month at The Happy Rooster, a favorite breakfast spot of the MADMEN and 35 of us were in attendance. This was a record-breaking number for our Last Saturday breakfast and the majority of us were able to participate in the run out through the Tanque Verde valley after, where we ended up at The Red Barn Country Store, an antique/used store that supports Old Pueblo Children’s Services.
