Mechanic Recommendation?

Postby wearlaz » Sat Jan 31, 2009 9:32 pm

I have a friend with a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. The vehicle started running rough and upon checking the oil, it's clear that the coolant and oil are now mixed. He has a nice latte colored oil and it's foamy / yogurt consistancy - good at Starbucks, not good when you open the valve cover.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic he can go to that's reasonable and somewhat reliable for this type of work?

Thanks
William

William,

Where is your friend located? I have one here in Chandler that I send all my friends to. Haven't lost a friend yet, and the mechanic still talks to me!! 8)

He's (and the stranded car) is in South Phx. Unfortunately, it looks like the work this car needs is way out of his price range. This car has been the ultimate money pit, unfortunately...

Hard to tell, Oil/coolant mixing could be as simple as an intake manifold gasket or as complex as a complete engine rebuild. Most mechanics are gonna quote you the worst case scenario.

An update - when we drained the oil from the engine, over 8 quarts of liquid were removed. Over half of it was anti-freeze (just put in the day before when the radiator was repaired) Looks like a substantial "leak"

Right now, he's considering having a relative take a closer look. If the repair costs are too much, he'll likely junk it and start over.
