2009 MINI Cooper
It's one of the ironies of the auto industry today that a model can be flying high one month and then come dropping back down from the stratosphere a while later. In mid-2008, the MINI Cooper could barely keep up with demand, and BMW, which owns the MINI brand, could only see a bright future for the sub-compact. As gas prices spiked, the MINI seemed the perfect car for an era of astronomical gas prices: Its 37 mpg highway fuel economy blew just about all its rivals away. It was also traditional and trendy at the same time, and parent BMW made sure its technology was unmatched. Now, just like every other brand, the MINI has been hit by the auto sales slump, and its misfortune can be your gain. Incentives are now back on the MINI , in the form of special leases. The $250 a month is a little pricier than most economy cars, but you would make up much of that in improved fuel economy. It's still the same MINI, however, with plenty of standard features: six airbags, ABS, traction control and stability control. There is also a veritable candy store of options: sport suspension, dynamic traction control, power sunroof, navigation system, parking sensors, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and satellite radio.
