Anyone have an interest in this run? Angeles Crest

Postby wearlaz » Sun May 31, 2009 10:33 pm

I was just reading where the entire Angeles Crest is BACK OPEN! Several parts had been closed due to landslides / fire damage, etc but is now fully open.

Here's a link to the drive:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... Flintridge)&geocode=FT2VDAIdry78-A%3BFYP4CQIdbk70-CFS_EvH5M-Xnw&hl=en&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=34.28999,-117.96529&sspn=0.501495,0.878906&ie=UTF8&ll=34.292396,-117.949219&spn=0.501482,0.878906&z=10

Some have compared this drive to the Dragon, but you can hit 4th gear!

It would have to be an over-nighter or maybe even a 3day weekend - thoughts?

I'm willing to help organize - maybe see if Sin City MINIs or a CA Club wants to participate?

That looks too cool. Did you have a time-frame in mind?

Not really. Just read about it today and thought I'd pass the idea along. It would probably be most enjoyable over a 3 day weekend, but I'm guessing it could be done in 2 LONG days... :)

I'm sure the So-Cal Mini Maniacs would be happy to put a route/run together for us, if they don't have one of the area already.

We met them for breakfast in Malibu and a nice run when we went over for the Petersen Automotive Museum trip that I put together in Jan 2008, was a good time.

I believe a group did part of that when we were over for Minis Take The States also, since it all staged out of Pasadena/Rose Bowl.

Mark, didn't you guys go up there on part of that route?

yes, we did a portion of that drive during MTTS. It is one on the most fun roads I have ever driven... ( police are aware of this.. and act accordingly ) To make a weekend trip of this would be fun.. We learned a couple other cool drives that would extend the fun. Would be easy to make a nice Friday night return Sunday event..

I'm interested!

A few people have also expressed interest in doing some camping, If there is a good campsite at either end of the run (or in middle) that could be fun too!

Just before you get to Big Pine - there's TONS of camping in every direction for hours...

Camping sounds good too.. i have a tent that I have never been able to use.

I posted the pics out on FaceBook and I got responses from Sin City and CA. I think if we plan it for a good time we could get a very large showing!!!
