radar detector( for a friend)

A good friend of mine was curious about information regarding radar detectors. Because I drive a Mini he thought I'd know/have/really need /probably ought to install one soon and I must confess to complete ignorance about them. Any recommendations here or should I go to a BMW forum? Thanks, Pete(and friend)

I'd say the
http://www.valentine1.com/ and the
http://www.escortradar.com/products.php are the two most popular. I've always been an Escort fan myself, but tons of people love the V1 also, so I don't think you can go wrong with either brand. I still have the Escort 8500, works great, 9500 has GPS/location capabilities that are pretty cool.
Choice comes down to preference on look, features and how much you want to spend

I have a Valentine 1 and love it. Real easy to hardwire in also.
